It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

I dont have the answer to that quite yet ... also curiuos myself as we've seen slipcovers that allowed you to place artwork within so it might not be the only one ... or it could be ... guess we'll see come release. In any case its nice to see some fresh new ideas also coming on to the table

yup also the artwork appears to be the same images but flipped in different spots. I want real customization, I want to choose front, back, and inside (so 4 images) that may not be the same 4 images that the next person buys. But this is a very interesting first step.

Can't wait for the customizers to just remove the art from wahtever movie they bought and just create their own case for whatever movie they want.

also looks like the round knob on the bottom is what is going to support it for display. I wonder if the rest of the packaging is thinner than a normal blu

Interesting, but I['m not sure this tops SteelBooks outside of the possibility of customizability. I wonder about the spine, if it shows the title, or if the concept for these is to display them face first.

face forward but then you have to have them hanging on the wall to see everyone :hilarious:

Sliding wall mounts too

Hmmm not sure if any thing I will buy one just to see it in person but that might be it. Who knows. Have to wait and see and for a title i don't own yet

Hmm not too sure about this but might get it just for its uniqueness and it suits the movie's aesthetics. Not sure how this packaging will look on other titles though.

Interesting  ... I dont mind a new and unique bluray packaging, but this wont replace the almighty steelbook! I'll order Oblivion (love that movie!) I just hope they release one for King Kong and Avatar! :scat:

I'd much rather have a paper insert in an amaray case than what I'm seeing.

Oblivion? Might be an appropriate first (and last) title that gets this treatment.

+1
I also think the amarays look better. Changing the paper insert would answer the customization needs.

The border looks awful. The Oblivion default looks like a picture frame of Tom Cruise. Could one imagine a Machete Fr4me on display? :ohno:

The only way I think this could be widely accepted is if it looks nice on a shelf (as steelbooks, vivas, amarays, slip covers etc. do). And this not having a spine is a major no no to me. But will wait for pics and video before I make a final judgment.

Be interesting to see some customisation jobs with this, but I doubt I'll get any of these.

Nice to see something different
