It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

With no name on the spine ,when you stack them together on your shelf, how are you going to find the movie you're looking for.if it's purely for display purposes, well you really can't collect a lot of these since you won't have the room for it. Compared to a steelbook, this is really just an" add on" feature to a blu ray case. A steelbook "stands" on its own.it is completely pure in that sense. So there is really no impact on the steel collectible.

I don't know. Doesn't look like something I'd be interested in. You can customize your own artwork.... if you're good at printing out quality stills in the correct size, but if you don't have a good photo printer, then you're kind of out of luck. I wonder if they are going to provide changeable art cards as an option in the future. Either way, it looks like it's going to take up a lot of room. And in the end, it's a plastic case, not metal.

I'll have to see in-hand pictures to judge.
When someone posts pictures, print them out and let us know :oohyeah:

I still think this will feel like cheap crap. I'm not sure how this type of packaging will start a new collecting community when something as nice as Digibook has barely got off the ground.
Haters will be the only ones at that subforum.

Just look at the expression the Minion makes on that cover EEK!
Tells everything :hilarious:
That and the title Oblivion. You can't make this stuff up. :hilarious: It reminds me of the computer they want to make for under $100. These are for collectors whose price range is under $10, but they won't be priced that way.

Either way, it looks like it's going to take up a lot of room.
Wider than steelbook? No thanks. :( Just try standing that thing up like in the picture.

That minion face. I can't get over it! :oohyeah:

more choices is always better, imo. Scanavo might be able to do some cool things with it. I think it's interesting looking and a nice concept. Once something with really cool artwork gets released, I'll probably buy.

What's with the Oblivion hate? Movie was awesome.

My local video store just got these in for sale on Friday and I had a quick look- the don't seem as 'huge' overall as the pictures suggest and seem thinner too. There is no spine info just a metal looking hinge between the 2 white plastic shells.

I suppose we'll have to wait a little longer for inside pictures and confirmation of how the disc is held in place. That is, if anyone here actually took the plunge and bought one (at £17, no thanks!)

Unless one you have in stock should accidentally have its shrinkwrap damaged before then... ;)
