In the same breath Some of us don't like paying £40 for Asian steelbooks that come with all the extra cardboard, I'm not interested in the slip, a number card, art cards or lenticulars but we still pay it to get the steelbook and no one batters an eye lid or even when they released 4 different avengers films with 4 different slips! Why do that? To get more sales and more money but yet no body complains now that zavvi are doing it everybody is kicking off, a cardboard slip has the same value as a cheap comic in a Zbox to me, nothing.
Like basil has said too, not everyone an afford a mystery each month and especially when those mysteries are quite naff. I've seen a handful of decent products in these boxes and the dredd badge was probably their best effort
Has anyone considered if this fails perhaps zavvi won't bother with UK exclusive re-releases of marvel films.
They don't have to release these steels like you don't have to buy this bundle.
To be honest, I don't think that's a fair comparison.
I don't think any member here has been able to buy every single steelbook they've wanted, nobody here has unlimited buying power. However your point is valid that it's extra cost by buying it with the ZBOX, but it's the only option for the consumer. Someone said in this thread that they are in a position where they don't own Iron Man play.com, want to own Iron Man, but can't afford the regular £100 price tag on eBay. This release in comparison is a much cheaper alternative with potential of 2 discs and the lenticular magnet. There is an Asian Iron Man going for around £50 but there are also people who don't want international releases. That can leave the consumer with the decision to either buy the ZBOX to own Iron Man at £40 or simply choose not to but hope it gets an individual release. Like most other members I would prefer to see this has its individual release, but it doesn't.
I'm sure Zavvi are well aware of Marvels popularity. I agree with your last sentence.

The problem is with Zbox is customers don't all get the same items and don't know exactly what they are getting until delivery
They are different with some having something decent and others having cheap items
Its a lucky bag as to what you get apart from set items that will be the same in each box
Most of what's in these Zbox is cheap items with a few decent products they have yes improved compared to previous early Zbox releases but are still overall items you would not purchase on their own normally except those customers who would be interested in purchasing these items
I don't have any problems with Zavvi doing a package of a Zbox with a steelbook as long as you have the option to purchase the steelbook on its own and not end up having to pay lot more than you would just for a steelbook alone
Its not fair to customers to have to purchase a Zbox just to get a steelbook and is alienating their regular steelbook customers in my opinion
Haha, don't. 1000's of collectors of all kinds of items visit and post in our community every week. Steelbooks are 1 part of our site. Feel free to visit other parts of the site to connect with folks who appreciate prints, Funkos, Statues and all levels of collectibles (rare and casual), across the world. The fairness of the tie-in multi-purchase really is separate from the value/merit of the Zbox.
As much as Zavvi have tried my patience of late with the Dredd steelbook I do think the Zbox is decent. And it's not a "lucky bag" in the manner you describe - with the items being the same across the boxes - sure you might get 1 of 4 different Funko Pop's from Big Hero Six but your post reads like one person gets a Funko Pop and the next one, a 10p plastic kazoo. Stuff like exclusive variant cover comics, much wanted Baby Groot funko pops, exclusive artist designed t-shirts (The "Undead" T-shirt is amazing, design was by the same chap who did that stunning Fifth Element steelbook) etc.
These mystery boxes aren't a mystery at all - in-fact a lot of people who get them are often the exact same people who collect steelbooks of movies - movie fans are often geeks and current culture is dominated by geek culture which makes me find the disparaging view of them a little askew from a website full of collectors, many of whom would not bat an eyelid at ponying up £40 for an Asian steelbook release.
As someone who gets the odd mystery book as well as collecting steelbooks, movies, comics, figurines etc I'm starting to feel a little ostracized here.
Marvel Steelbooks sell out on their own without the need for a ZboxHas anyone considered if this fails perhaps zavvi won't bother with UK exclusive re-releases of marvel films.

Hear hear...Marvel Steelbooks sell out on their own without the need for a Zbox
If Zavvi had Iron Man available to order on its own it would have sold out in a day
The mistake was making it only available with a Zbox
Zavvi will be very capable of selling out Marvel Steelbooks with ease just sell the Steelbook on its own
It was a crazy idea to try get customers order a Zbox/Steelbook bundle just because it's Iron Man that was not going to work
Iron Man Steelbook available on its own = a Sold out release
Iron Man only available with a Zbox = slow sales and most likely stuck with stock
If they want to sell out make available on its own
It's very easy a very popular title will sell out but don't try to make customers buy another product they don't want

Zavvi don't need to shift anything. This zbox hasn't even come out yet. It's not like they've been sitting in a warehouse for the best part of a year.
If they were making such losses on these boxes then they'd cease to do them.q
