Looks like zavvi have reinstated some of the complaint reviews on the listing (and from reading them fans are being brutally honest that they've had enough) though my post has not been published, so they're still censoring some (not that mine was in any way inappropriate).
Hopefully they get the message and pay attention.
Regardless of who creates the artwork (I know Disney prepare the art themselves) if zavvi are securing a steelbook as an 'exclusive' to their store in a territory, then they have to feel confident they are buying stock that they firstly can sell, and that will also nurture their reputation as a retailer providing high end exclusive limited items for collectors.
Hopefully this situation will highlight to them that collectors have had enough of the half assed artwork attempts and unfinished looking titleless and spineless steels we've been getting over here in the UK, and will convince them to push for units taken from the American steelbook print runs - you know, seeing as how we speak ENGLISH too.
Bottom line is, if you're charging 9.99 for a steelbook then fair enough, I don't expect bells and whistles and the greatest graphic design on the planet.
But if you"re charging £18-25 for a steelbook, then there's absolutely no reason on earth why the quality should not be EVERY BIT as good as a kimchi or blu fans release. That's a LOT of money to pay for a film that is no different to the standard disc release, with no extras, extra discs, bonus booklets, art cards, sleeves, lenticulars, or p.e.t slipcase.
Steelbooks represent the high end premium edition of a film for collectors, and those same collectors are willing to pay more for a premium item, but for too long they've been pumping out sub standard product with no titles, dull finishes, missing p.e.t sleeves that complete the artwork balance, and in this case without even a 3D disc.
Enough is enough. When you can by an all singing all dancing bells and whistles kimchi release for the same price as a zavvi release on their store, why on earth should we buy anything zavvi have to offer?
Compare the monsters inc kimchi steelbook with lenticular slip, gloss finish, stunning artwork and card to the zavvi exclusive. The cost difference was very little. Collectors have been taken for a fool for way too long simply because we've lapped up the steels they've flung at us. Unless we demand better quality, zavvi will just keep accepting whatever substandard product Disney etc throw at us convinced we'll buy it anyway because there's no alternative. By showing them we won't accept whatever is thrown at us simply because it's a steelbook and that we expect better hopefully zavvi will up their own standards of what they're willing to offer for a studio.
