base.com and zavvi.com both have it listed as 4 disc 3d. amazon has it listed as 2 disc, so it sounds like the amazon steel will be a regular 2d version. one can only hope they don't change that.

If you have the Gandalf steelbook for AUJ, I reckon the German steel looks far better next to it than this one. Just need it with an English cover.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of steels with 3D plastered on them (I simply don't buy them)... but not buying this one because I'm going to wait on the Extended version to come out. Stopped double dipping ages ago and not even a steelbook would warrant that.

ATM the only EU 2D steelbooks are the german (with german title Smaugs Einöde) and norwegian (with english title; but I don't know if they ship internationally) ones: is it right?

sorry going to sound like a dumb question here but what if you buy a 3d tv later on then you will have disc?
and if really not fussed for 3d why not just buy but don't use the 3d disc seems you are punishing yourself for something you liked look of till you saw was 3d if you see wear im coming from, no?
