Thanks to Wreck we have now found out that the steels will feature LANDSCAPE ART and NO INSIDE ART, with the possibility of having no back art either (to be confirmed).

I don't know about you guys, but I am fuming! It's like having a steelbook and taking a massive dump on it.... I had such high hopes for this from both Universal and Play.com - but it looks like I'm going to have to pass completely.

So guys.... How do you feel about this news? This is a good chance for us the consumers to voice our opinions.

I'll probably wait for the German Steels to come out then. Allthough, I'd rather had English titled Steels... But horizontal Steels just don't look that great! ... At all!

some horizontal steelbooks do work, notably the german releases of trainspotting, fight club and the book of eli.
as already mentioned, in theory, most artwork won't work in a horizontal format, so this could potentially be a disastrous move for play.com, if the info is accurate.

Not to forget the "Rock'N Rolla"

But i do not own a horizontal (anymore!) as i also do not like them at all...
Some look good or great, but i just like them vertical!

i just really really want these play.com steelz to be good seeing as its the UK's first wave as such, we dont have anything like the alliance waves you get and the amazing disney steelz, which is so s*#t lol, canada and the us are the place to be for steelbooks

Well we've got some early indication with the german release of Pitch Black as to how this wave could potentially turn out.... and guess what? It looks awful!!!

Yeah,I am a big fan of Riddick/Pitch Black and I even skipped the 1st Pitch Black Horizontal Steel cover-looks doctored, and non-integrated....just horrible, imo. I'll stay tuned for actual confirmation of the MM wave to see if I'll buy. At this point I own several eds of these movies, so I am not rushing to add another, unless the art/features are nice.

Good point however I think that is because the artwork is so left of field. As a cover I prefer the vertical of Monsters, just wish they had lenticulated it.

I am so disappointed in Play.com as they are normally amazing with exclusive steelbooks!! Such a huge blow! I hope this is all a very early April fools!

It doesn't matter to me if there is no inside artwork. I can always insert my own, but bloody LANDSCAPE SteelBooks absolutely kills it for me.
