When I get a damaged steel I call them, they send an email which I print and put in the box I send back. I post to their freepost return address and I get proof of postage from the Post Office (as in I don't pay to return the item), and I either get refunded or a new steel sent out.

Sent HMV an Email:
Hi,
I have on pre-order a copy of The Dark Knight Rises steelbook. I just had some concerns about your postage. I have heard a lot of negative things about your steelbooks arriving quite damaged due to improper packaging. I would just like to request that my steelbook is checked for imperfections and sent in safe packaging. I am willing to pay a little extra for postage if it means the safe arrival of my film.
My order number is: 3xxxxxxx
Thank you,
Ben

Hopefully they will take this seriously and provide proper packaging. I doubt they will do anything, but it's worth a shot. I don't expect them to make me pay extra for shipping, they shouldn't but I really want this as mint as I can get it ;)

I've done similar, just got what looked like a copy and paste job reply saying they've passed my concerns onto the warehouse team.

Have you got the Steelbooks yet or was this for a pre-order as well?
Sent it with pre-orders in mind after both my original delivery and replacement copy of Dark Shadows arrived with slashed spines and paint chips. I wasn't particularly happy with any of the replies I got from them so i've cancelled my pre-orders and i'll just pick them up in store.

Dear Mr Brown,

Thanks for your email.

I can confirm that all items leave our warehouse in perfect condition and most items arrive at their destination without any problems.

If your item does unfortunately arrive damage then we can have a replacement copy sent to you, however this is very unlikely to happen.

Any questions? Visit the 'Help'section on www.hmv.com; reply to this email, or give us a ring instead on 0845 603 8576. We're open Monday to Friday, from 9am - 6pm.

Kind regards,

Sarah Ferguson

Not sure whether to trust them....
This is my first order from them, If this arrives damaged, I won't order from them again.

I just got MIB3 with a nasty dent and going to return it. How do I make sure I also get refunded for my return postage?

Have they just given up? It's been 21 days since they said they received my damaged steelbooks and said there was a problem crediting my CC back. I've tried to contact them at least once a day in the 21 days and they refuse to respond to me. I get the auto-reply, so I know they are getting my emails.

I don't want to call because it would probably cost me as much as the SBs in phone charges. I thought I was already done with them for good, but need my refund before I can forget about them for good.

I've ordered dozens of steelbooks from them in the past, I was lucky when they had the thin cardboard boxes, no damage. When they went with the plastic bags, the last three I received from them were dented.

I canceled over a dozen open orders and I'll never deal with them again.

Don't know whether it's been mentioned in this thread before but as Overseas customers have to pay postage it might be worth having a word with a UK based Ninja who can inspect the steel and then send them to you PACKED AS STEELS SHOULD BE PACKED. Please note I'm not offering my services for this at the moment due to other commitments :hilarious: but it is worth consideration.

Yeah, I have that option thanks to a fellow Ninja ;) but dealing with them in the last couple months and still waiting on a refund and I do not want someone else to deal with the headaches for me. This company is just not worth it anymore and they can shove their exclusives straight up thier #*^$(*.

Bit ironic that they sent out an email today proclaiming themselves:
Home of Steelbooks - exclusives including The Amazing Spider-Man + lots more

As far as I'm aware, HMV stores have still not received a single copy of any of the recent white Warners releases (300, Matric, Troy etc).
I've got £100 on a HMV gift card that I'm dying to spend on these. So pre-ordered five ages ago and they simply never arrived in store.
I've tried multiple stores and none ever received them or could explain why not. The website claims to have them in stock, but the price went up by £5 on the day of release.

HMV are an absolute joke at the moment. What's the point of publicising the Skyfall offer when hardly anyone can order due to their servers not being able to handle demand?

yep hmv are indeed a joke had only bad experiences with them steelbook wise and when you consider they are supposed to be the only real high street entertainment specialists left it makes you wonder what the world is coming to.... i always find their stock lacking as mentioned before by another member even pre orders rarely make it to the store and on the three times i have pre ordered to the store they have all turned up damaged and when asked to find another copy low and behold they only have the one i ordered... you would think they might actually order stock to sell instore??? and when the steels they do have instore are HUGELY overpriced e.g. safehouse £25??? they wonder why they dont shift them and have to knock everything down to a fiver to get rid of it lol they are a joke i just hope TDKR and Expendables 2 dont go the same way as all the others i have ordered in the past....

Hey Chris, they kept giving me the run around as well, Until I finally sent them an email stating that if I did not get my refund I would contact my CC company and tell them it was a fraudulent transaction. I had my refund in 2 days.

Thanks. That threat was given a couple of times in the 21 days. ;) Forgot to update, but after a 30 day run around (2 months from beginning to end), I finally got my refunds + return shipping. Now, I can finally put HMV behind me. If any of my UK friends happen to go to HMV to pick up exclusives for themselves, I might ask to pick one up for me. I will never ask for anyone to get anything just for me from them.

Of all the steelbooks, I've only had one arrive damaged and this was a slight scuff mark on the front. Never had a problem with their packaging, always arrived in cardboard boxes and never had a steelbook arrive in a jiffy bag.

Play have been the worst for steelbooks compared and they have the amazing packaging!
