Could you elaborate on when and how racism ended and how it was brought back?
You're trying to reason and find common ground with people who have absorbed an extensive amount of brain rot from all the agitprop fed to them by their political overlords, Fox News and the far right social media apparatus comprised of sellouts and grifters. It is a futile exercise in mutual enlightenment. You won't get any from debating these clowns, and neither will they. I advise you to make better use of your precious time and just let these jokers continue to exist amongst themselves inside of a lonely miserable echo chamber.

Normally I would agree with you and that's what I do. But on occasion, I want to find out why people think the things that they do and say the things that they say and their reasoning behind it. I'm not going to agree with it nor will they with me, but I want to know the purported basis for it. Just ignoring it isn't always the most straightforward thing when you're sharing a forum with or spending time around people (which I have had to for work purposes before).

I feel like I gave you a few reasons why they perpetually espouse the same tired regurgitative nonsense, but hey man you do you. If you find this kind of stuff interesting or stimulating have at it. Anecdotally, I just feel like you're wasting your time and I was trying to spare you from that, but you know what, it's not my place, so I'll peacefully recuse myself from the conversation and abstain from ever entering it again.

I normally don’t consider this forum the place for politics, but culture and politics inevitably intersect at times. Regarding the previous poster's comment about racism "ending," I believe it can be interpreted in a few ways. The most charitable reading is that, during the 1990s and early 2000s, race simply wasn’t a dominant, daily presence in everyday conversations or the news cycle the way it is today often injected with a deliberately divisive or political motive.

Now to the film. Christopher Nolan’s films are always wildly ambitious, but they often feel hit or miss to me. The most jarring thing in the trailer was the dialogue. My main issue with the creative liberties is that when the project was first announced, Nolan talked about staying true to the source material, yet he seems to be playing very fast and loose with it.

Personally, and somewhat ironically my favorite adaptation is still O Brother l, Where Art Thou?

In a world which, presently feels troubled and challenged, probably more than ever, it's good to have another outlet where we can remove ourselves from the troubles of the world for, albeit a short time.
This forum acts as a distraction for a lot of members who have personal challenges and as a momentary escape to give themselves a break from the issues they're up against, myself included.
I get that people have individual opinions but it's disappointing to see the divisive politics surrounding the worlds current climate derailing threads. Visiting this forum gives me a momentary distraction from personal challenges but this type of political intrusion turns me off and leans me toward taking a step back...

I don't disagree about your points, although when it comes to book adaptations I feel like you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't sometimes. I suppose part of my suspicion about some arguments here about the importance of staying close to or in line with the source material is taking precedence from other adaptations. I think some feel like movies have to do everything exactly as a book describes it, but it is an adaptation after all, but these problems (as advertised in this thread) only seem to lie in very specific cases.

I could be wrong, but perhaps those that have the issues with the casting of Athena or Helen of Troy didn't have the same issues with the Dune series for making significant changes to Chani's or the Baron's characters, the removal/avoidance of the term "jihad" from the narrative, or the lack of Middle-Eastern or North African actors? The "wokeism" didn't destroy the success of the movies by any means due to those or other changes. Yet I remember the complaints from some about changing Liet Kynes. Will the same complaints arise with the same vehemence if Nolan's Poseidon isn't as vengeful? Or if Calypso doesn't ensure Odysseus' misery lasts as long in his time with her? I haven't seen complaints in here about the rest of the cast not being Greek representatives so I'm wondering why that isn't an issue either.

OK, that's all fair from both of you. Sometimes I guess I just want to challenge and see what's said in return, for the many times I've just had to leave it I guess. I'm going to step away from this thread and unwatch it and ignore any replies to me. My apologies for dragging the derailing on (or beginning it).
