Honestly, if I didn't know any better I'd say that these last 10-15 years have been a giant psyop to turn people against each other and especially fuel racism in white people against everyone else.

Why the heck else would they do this to every single peace of Western culture and never to anything else? I'm pretty sure that far-left weirdos who want to 'tear down the capitalist structures of the patriarchal West' are not in charge of the film industry. So what the hell is this all about? Everything I grew up with has been bastardised or defaced in some way, one after the other. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, you name it. And then they have the gall to call you all kinds of names if you hate what they're doing.

And now they're doing it to THE founding myth of the West.

It's just enough, and it's been enough for over 10 years.

Just anecdotally, I'm curious if all of this will affect the box office in any way. I somehow can't see a Nolan film flopping, even though Nolan should absolutely be scolded at the Box office for following this modern Hays code.

I give up on TV and films a long time ago because of this carry on. One incident when I was watching British TV 5 years ago did it for me and I just cancelled my TV licence. You are right in that pretty much all the major franchises I grew up with have been well trashed. This film was already ringing alarm bells with me when I read the book it was based on... The trailer was so underwhelming for me....

Let's face it, liberties have always been taken in the name of artistic license in entertainment and accuracy in historical depictment is often a prime example of this.
Sometimes we just have to accept that entertainment is exactly what it is, simple entertainment and not a platform for an individuals views...

That's funny.

Major / major supporting Black / minority actors in this year's BP nominees:

Marty Supreme - Tyler The Creator (less than 9 minutes screentime)
Train Dreams - 0
Sentimental Value - 0
Frankenstein - 0
Hamnet - 0

That's half of the nominees. Of the best actor/actress + supporting nominees (20), 4 were from black/minority backgrounds.

I know a lot of you don't like to / can't accept it, but 1.) directors can cast black/minority actors in roles that were written as or have previously been played by white actors and vice-versa, and 2.) I'm pretty sure black people and people from minorities have existed throughout different periods of history.

That's not the point. None of these people were ever in the narrative of books which they were based on. That's the problem. 99.9% of these books were written by white people with white people in mind. Snow White comes to mind. It just becomes taking the piss and I got tired of the virtue signalling trope a long time ago.... I want to be entertained not lectured. You want black people in films based on books. Fine, then get stories from black cultures that engage black people and see how the play out in cinemas and TV. If they are good enough, people will go but stop taking European legends and tales and making a mockery of them.....

Is Christopher Nolan lecturing watchers by casting black or minority actors? Do you have the same view of pantomimes where men play women and women play men? Sounds like you'd prefer segregation, keep the blacks with the blacks to enjoy black stuff and the whites with the whites to enjoy white stuff and so on.

Check out the translator for Nolans preferred translation of the poem, her name is Emily Wilson. She literally says things like 'Odyssey is a story about a white man objectifying his wife' etc. There is no two ways about it, these people are not only complete morons, but hate Western civilization and have been somehow put into the position to be able to rewrite the founding myths of our civiliation. It has nothing to do with segregation or intolerance. It has nothing to do with not wanting black people in a film. Some of the best films ever made have black main actors in it. Some of the best actors in the world are black. To instantly go to the argument "you're just racist" is not only unfair, but completely missing the point.

The key is looking at the people who are doing this stuff and their often openly stated intentions. They are allowed to be so confident about it - because most people are not openly challenging them - that they are not even hiding it. It's not about inclusion, it's not about building something. It's about the exact opposite, about tearing down our culture and our values. And this has been done on steroids over the last 10+ years to every single modern Western pop-culture artifact. And you can see this in our society, people have become more and more lost, angry, disheartened. Because our culture is being - in my opinion purposefully - eroded.

Just to give this to you on your way: There is a Norwegian YouTuber who is focussing heavily on Viking content. He's pretty well known in those circles who are interested in that subject. A few months ago he was contacted by muslim investors who were offering to pay him a lot of money to take part in a campaign that wants to rewrites history to say that Vikings were originally muslims, thus scandinavia being originally islamic. Since this is absolute horse sh*it, he obviously declined. But that tells you what's going on in our world. If this one single guy makes a video about it, how many people do you think actually take the money and this stuff never comes to light? Including politicians. There is a real attempt to delete and rewrite our Western history and culture. Period.

And that's why I don't tolerate castings like this anymore. Because it's just another part of that same thing. And believe it or not, you can actually like black people and still want to protect Western history and culture.

Try reading what I said. I said nothing about segregation or pantomimes are anything else. Pantomimes have an historical context which you clearly don't know about and segregation has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I made it clear if you are going to take a book and make a film about it, keep the characters the same as the book. The "Bridgerton effect" has went beyond annoying and makes a mockery of drama. Period drama even more so. If Nolan wants to make woke crap, that's his business but I sure as hell don't have to tune in to it.... And I think you'll find he's got a serious uphill struggle to get people to watch his latest film........ The Trailer put me off the film and I suspect a lot of people are thinking like me "Avoid like the plague".... Trailers do make or break a film..... As someone who spend 30 years in advertising I can confirm "Go woke, go broke" is a reality and a very painful one at that..

Do you both think it odd for a person to think that a person saying
You want black people in films based on books. Fine, then get stories from black cultures that engage black people and see how the play out in cinemas and TV
couldn't be taken as that person saying that black people / minorities should stick to their own stuff and stay out of white people's and vice-versa?

I'm not quite sure that I buy that this will be a colossal failure given it made $1.5m a year before its release from initial IMAX sales alone but we'll see I suppose. Can you give me some big examples of all the movies that "went woke" and became financial disasters?

Snow White cost $270 million to make. It only grossed $207 million. With advertising it lost roughly $170 million. And that's on top of a lot of recent Disney films that have flopped.
  • Strange World (2022): Reported losses of nearly $300 million due to low theatrical attendance.
  • Lightyear (2022): Underperformed significantly for a Pixar title.
  • Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023): Resulted in an estimated $100 million+ loss.
  • The Marvels (2023): Reported to be one of the lowest-grossing MCU films, with estimated losses of over $240 million.
  • Wish (2023): Performed poorly during the typically lucrative Thanksgiving weekend.
  • Haunted Mansion (2023): Lost an estimated $117 million.
That's just the tip of Disney's problems but you get the drift..... Other studios doing just as bad....

Apologies, I missed this part. From what I've read / know (very little in comparison to you apparently), pantomimes began in the 16th century in Italy although really it was based off ideas from Greek theatre, and women weren't allowed on stage pretty much ever in ancient Grecian theatre or in pantomimes until mid-late 17th century. The British decided to adopt the pantomime and at some point women were allowed to perform and at some point (mid 19th century is what I have seen stated in most places) a woman played a gender swapped role for the first time. Did I get most of that correct?

Isn't that very woke? Shouldn't they have just kept to the original intention and not only not allowed women to gender swapping roles but have also just not allowed women on stage at all? The panto still seems quite popular, why didn't the woke-broke rule apply there?

Isn't that a general Disney thing though and more to do with an overabundance of movies and remakes/sequels and less to do with specific titles that were woke? Indiana Jones isn't being played by a minority woman now, it's still Harrison Ford. And didn't Disney say as early as a year ago that their DEI plans were being as good as torn up? Shouldn't that have resulted in an improvement?

Men dressing up as woman was because women were not allowed to perform until the 1660's in England and this is a norm that dated back to the Middle ages. The treatment of woman in general was pretty dire until until the late 19th Century. But that's another topic for another time. Yes the rest of Europe were forward in women acting but England was not and so the tradition stuck to this day..... None has any idea why women were not allowed to act on public stages. It could be because acting was considered low brow and a form of indecency for woman but no research has ever got an answer.

A lot of factors but no question casting a non-white woman as Snow White was a dire casting choice and meered the film on controversy before it came out that trailer really killed it...... The can't tear up their DEI plans because they now have it in law that they have to have quotas for minority groups in films regardless of the subject matter....

Those Oscars rules are ridiculous, BUT you have to qualify for 2 out of 4 sections to get an 'achievement', and there are many listed 'minority' options one can 'use' to place a derogative check mark next to – and that is all those rules are doing, they're actually demeaning to each and every group, when you're hired because you needed to, and not based on your merits and abilities. It's fascism.
Anyways, Mr. Musk and others are wrong, because Nolan could've achieved that fascist certification in numerous other ways, plus one has got to struggle to find an uglier actress, than current Ellen Page or Lupita Nyongo. That crap is intentional.

Honestly, if I didn't know any better I'd say that these last 10-15 years have been a giant psyop to turn people against each other and especially fuel racism in white people against everyone else.
You're right, most people weren't racist already, and weren't even thinking about the race of any given actor, but it's like they're intentionally pinpointing it, exacerbating on the basis of a made up or created by them 'problem'.
I think it's because racism has essentially ended, but 'they' need it to thrive, divide and conquer.
All the land, corporations, and politicians are long bought and paid for, in all the 'developed' countries, there's only an illusion of choice, and I'm guessing 'racism wars' is part of that smoke and mirrors show.

The 'wokies' don't understand, they immediately scream 'bigot', that's why I put it under my 'nick'. :D

Anyways, there's a whole funny trend now, thanks to this 'controversy', so there's still hope not the whole world's gone looney.

Could you elaborate on when and how racism ended and how it was brought back?
