OK, just got back from seeing this in IMAX 3D. I enjoyed the movie and thought it was good, but I can't say it was great. I will definitely be getting this day one once it comes out on bluray. A few of my thoughts:

Pro's
The sound effects and visuals were fantastic. Godzilla's roars were great. I thought they got the monsters right in terms of them not being cheesy. Bryan Cranston was really good for the time he was on screen.

Con's
Bryan Cranston should have been the lead. He had emotion and could have pulled the viewer in more than his son who became the lead. Missed opportunity there. I didn't want a movie of just constant monster fights, but I would have liked to have seen some more of Godzilla. Ken Wantabe's character could have been better.

Overall, I liked it and want to see it again.

We just saw Godzilla (2014) last night. I always go to the movies with low expectations even with the all the hype sorrounding a movie, so I won't be dissapointed afterwards. Well that's why you go to the movies to enjoy yourself and be entertain. But anyways, the effects and the actions are amazing and the sound is jaw dropping. G's roar alone is worth the price of admission for Godzilla fans. Overall it's a very good action/monster/disaster film, but for Godzilla fans its the best monster film ever. I'll say its the second best Gojira film so far, second only to Godzilla (1954). Can't wait for the sequel and part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6 ...

I agree with that statement. It is the best monster movie I have seen. Hopefully there will be sequels.

You can look at this movie in 2 ways. As Godzilla fans, you can just compare it to other Godzilla movies and in that sense it is great. He has never looked better or more awesome. Only the first film would compare to me. In a second way you can compare it to other movies in general(not monster movies). I can't say it is a great movie in that sense, but I more than enjoyed it.

I enjoyed Godzilla for what it was, but I found a monster movie like Cloverfield to be much better in delivering scares, anticipation and terror. Godzilla looked and sounded awesome, but he didn't instill fear in me.

Even though Godilla was awe inspiring, the MUTO were more of a threat to humanity than Godzilla. In my eyes, that seemed reversed.

With that said, I'm going to pick it up on blu-ray :)

This movie was epic. They make you wait , but when it hits ,you feel it.This has to be the best movie I've seen in a minute.I'm tempted to put it over Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Elizabeth Olsen and those damn Green eye's EEK! They're so big, you can get lost in them.

Must admit Ms Olsen is rather nice, here's hoping she's in the sequel, and of course there's the matter of a small independent movie she's in, Age Of Ultron I think it's called :naughty:

Even if it's bad I'll still watch for Olsen! LOL!

I honestly did not care for the "so-called' remake! Olsen was the only reason why I even bothered to see it! Especially because I was told she shows her :boobies: :naughty: LOL!

‘Godzilla’ Sequel In The Works At Warner Bros. & Legendary

http://www.deadline.com/2014/05/godzilla-2-sequel-warner-bros-legendary-gareth-edwards/

EXCLUSIVE: After opening to $103M internationally — the biggest opening of 2014 so far — and grossing $93M domestic stateside this weekend, it should come as no surprise that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.‘ are already developing a sequel to the monster hit. It was confirmed to Deadline this morning that a Godzilla sequel is underway. The beast is currently stomping across international markets to take No. 1 spots in most territories.

Edwards has talked about what he would do with a sequel, saying he would use the same kind of restraint that he did for this one. He learned well from watching Spielberg films as the monster was only talked about for the first part of this film. And, of course, there were those reaction shots that added to the suspense. Edwards was given the chance by Legendary’s Thomas Tull who put faith in him to pull this off, having previously done Monsters which only grossed $2.6M in total. Tull has played coy in the media on the subject of a sequel, waiting for Godzilla‘s monster opening to confirm sequel plans. As Dan Fellman (WBros. head of domestic distribution) pointed out, they made more in one night (probably one late night run at 7 PM) than Edwards’ movie did in its entire run. Legendary’s Jon Jashni developed this along with Brian Rogers and Mary Parent. Max Borenstein scripted from a story by David Callaham. Alex Garcia at Legendary was instrumental in the development of this film working, closely with both the director and writer.

It should be noted that there is an ongoing legal dispute over payments/credit on Godzilla winding its way through the courts with filmmakers Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Doug Davison who brought the property to Legendary.

The marketing on this film was excellent, with Legendary Pictures in-house team of Emily Castel, Barnaby Legg, Matthew Marolda and Peter Stone working closely with Warner Bros. and those folks who cut the trailer and did the key art and outdoor, namely vendors Trailer Park and Ignition. The promotional spots — really thought the Fiat one was great — were overseen by Gene Garlock who worked with all the Legendary team as well. Kudos all around.

Godzilla surprised everyone right out of the gate in late nights Thursday with a $9.3M haul and continued to rake in the bucks through the weekend. It is the highest IMAX opener so far this year with $14.1M (or 15%) of the domestic gross and IMAX screens brought in 51% of the international gross.

So everyone wants to know: Will Mothra be in the sequel?

I hope we get an official statement from WB and Legendary! With Godzillas box office performance, it's a no brainer this was getting a sequel! F**K YEAH! Bring it!

Weekend Report: 'Godzilla' is Box Office King

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3845&p=.htm

Godzilla reigned supreme at the box office this weekend, scoring one of the biggest debuts of the year so far.

Produced by Legendary Pictures and released by Warner Bros., the monster movie reboot earned an impressive $93.2 million at the domestic box office this weekend. It also opened in most overseas markets, which added up to $103 million.

Godzilla's domestic debut ranks second in 2014: it wound up in between Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($91.6 million). It also opened significantly higher than last Summer's World War Z ($66.4 million), and more-than-doubled Pacific Rim's $37.3 million.

It's also worth noting that Godzilla earned more in its first three days than Star Trek Into Darkness earned in its first four ($83.7 million) on the same weekend last year. It was also above 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($90.2 million).

Godzilla's success this weekend can be attributed to some smart choices made by the Warner Bros. marketing department. Coming off last Summer's disappointing Pacific Rim, Warner Bros. opted to pitch Godzilla first-and-foremost as a disaster movie (instead of a monster movie). Advertisements hid the title character—and avoided even mentioning the other monsters—and instead put an emphasis on the human impact of large-scale destruction. Much of this was hung on Bryan Cranston's character, who was positioned as the movie's focal point; while that was very misleading, it was also highly effective.

Many moviegoers opted for premium-priced screenings of Godzilla. 3D showings accounted for 51 percent of revenue. Included in there is $14.1 million from IMAX, which is the biggest haul on those large-format screens so far this year.

The audience for Godzilla was 58 percent male, and 60 percent were 25 years of age or older. They awarded the movie a "B+" CinemaScore, which for this genre indicates mixed word-of-mouth. With tough competition from X-Men: Days of Future Past, it's going to take a big hit next weekend: still, it almost certainly has enough juice to end up over $230 million.

Great FU**ING News! :movie:

Any film would find it hard going up against the new X-Men! Of course it will see a drop in takings. But it still should hold it's own at number 2.

I must admit although a few have commented on here about the lack of screen time, I'm totally with Edwards and have always believed in the Spielberg philosophy of keeping the monster under wraps for at least the first 40mins of a film. The Lost World was probably the only exception but they covered it well with bringing in far more scares. I thought Godzilla's screen time was perfect, it would have ruined the suspense to have him get more screen time.

^agree with that statement but the movie was hurt by the lack of a strong lead... in order for the philosophy of hiding the monster and building suspense (which i think Jaws succeeded beautifully at) the movie needs to be driven not only by the urge to see more of the monster and the anticipation, but it needs strong characters and even pacing. That to me and once again, just my opinion i didnt care about ford or his family and the pacing of the film went south after
cranstons death

Saw it last night on Showcase's new XPlus screen with the new Dolby Atmos sound system according to the theatre manager it's their baby Imax the sound system is simply awsome with an imersive 360 degree field which really bought the movie alive, the film itself is really entertaining & i'm glad Edwards has bought back the original gojira as he should be.
